Based on my previous project, I am going to work on my friend’s CD album artwork. I expect I’ll make whole CD artworks design, which could be 8 pages booklet, CD label, front inlay, back inlay and obi-strips. the obi-strips is very common in Japan CD industry. Obi is just a paper cover on the left side of CD case. Then, total could be 12 pages design.
My goal; the design comes from music. I believe the picture could be born from music itself. Because every song has own story I believe. The important thing is; how to organize those songs in whole design. So I want to apply the design to music.
Whole concept; soft/relax/sensitive/love/but large scale. This album title is “DEAR”, and sang by Japanese male musician, Tsukasa Takeda. He mentioned that concept for album”DEAR”.
Mainly his music style is Acoustic guitar sound. Other few songs’ instrumentals are little bit percussion, base, and bit synthesizer sound. For me, his sound is natural; not too much clean, and little bit sketchy. When I listened his last song “DEAR”, I imagined that bright lights behind the big tree and someone journey on his way, and I just look at such view. The color is really soft and bright. Then I decided to use water color for artwork. I want to keep focus on the watercolor taste.
According to him, in December 2007 he is going to sell/release this CD album from his own label.
Note; he is indie’s musician. http://takeda-tsukasa.com/
Ok well thinking about how short time is and how little experience I have with the idea of an enormous popup book, I decided to downsize my project. I just bought a new domain name which I wanted to make into a portfolio site. I want to design and complete my own artwork on illustrator and create a picture viewer of my previous work as well as
creating an intro flash animation. I’m not sure entirely of the actual layout but I was thinking of going with the pop up theme though simpler and see how it animates. I am sure I will need help when it comes to learning the programs as problems arise but I feel fairly confident that I can complete part of it through those programs with the knowledge I have. I want to make sure my idea translates me as a designer as well as familiarizing myself with new programs.
My finalproject is going to be a portfolio website. I have never been allowed to make a personal site for any other classes and I would like to have all my work in a collective space. Over the years I have collected doodles, oil painting, and photographs. And in the more recent years have shot a lot of film and video and would also like to add my reel onto my portfolio site. I plan to include my resume as well. I plan on using photoshop to design my site and plan on linking it in dreamweaver.
