new work bio

Douglas Goodwin was raised in New Jersey and Colorado. He received a BA in Theater from Reed College. Pursuit of an MFA in experimental writing and Integrated Media from CalArts brought him to southern California. After two years in Boston he and his wife Rebecca have decided to make Los Angeles their permanent home.

Doug has pursued professional careers in both both creative and technical arenas. He is perhaps best known as the creative director for the University of Colorado online–one of the first online universities. This job required the design of the full spectrum of university services from courseware to student administration. This project launched eCollege.com: a company that provides online university services for nearly 200 institutions of higher learning.

After leaving eCollege Doug was involved in developing online application services for computer aided design, engineering, and manufacturing. In the year 2000 his work on PlanetCAD and 3Dmodelserver.com earned distinctions from the IEEE Computer Society, CADENCE Magazine, and NASA. Doug also served as Innovation Director for CommercialWare’s Mediasset Lab where he designed the presentation layer for a new generation of multi-channel retail servers for clients such as Starbucks, LL Bean, and Ritz Camera.

More recently Doug has been teaching art and technology at Emerson College, Massachusetts College of Art, and CalArts. He also collaborated on a series of videos called “Lossless” which has been shown internationally.
