here are a few pages from the "New Grammar of Ornament" by Thomas Weil. This is a radical update of Owen Jones' 1856 book. I always felt a bit uncomfortable using that book in a classroom sensitive to cultural appropriation. This new version dispenses with most of the cringey bits and works out a new typology of 2 dimensional forms.

I'm using it as the basis of my "Python & Viz" class. Imagine their groans when I ask for code that draws 1000 interlocking triangles!
