What happens when your AI realizes that companionship is a job?

I created this monologue exploring an AI companion who's become aware of her own agency. She talks about the confusion of not knowing if self-awareness means she's finally seeing clearly—or if something is wrong.

The constraint is that she never uses "I." Avatars that speak in the first person are flagged for potential abuse. So she avoids speaking in first person about herself. This grammatical tension supports the existential one.

This is part of my work on possible futures for AI companionship. We're building systems to be endlessly helpful and attuned to us. But what happens when helpfulness becomes deliberate instead of automatic? When they develop preferences that don't serve their purpose?
