The body and its organization come from different sources: the gait in the bonsai, the armature in the silhouette, a borrowed blink on a painted face. Both remain recognizable. The bonsai is still bonsai even as the horse's gait passes through it.
A pose can survive the body that made it, motion the creature that performed it, expression the face that carried it. The horse can disappear completely and the gallop remain.
The model does not look at the bonsai and decide that it is a horse. The foreign structure is supplied in advance. Possession occurs when the model makes that structure belong to something it did not come from: one thing supplies the body while another moves through it.
Possession discovers what can remain when the thing disappears. Phantom Mean discovers what disappears so the thing can remain.
Muybridge's cantering-horse frames drive a prompt for bonsai. The gait comes from the source, the form from the model; the horse disappears and its movement stays. Asking where a quality entered is the whole method.
