Still Life

A hand lifts an orange from the seller's display, turns it over, sets it back, lifts it again — and this time its underside is green. The choosing never completes; the world won't resolve into an event.

The green should change something. It is a discovery, information that could produce a decision: take this orange, reject it, choose another. Instead it becomes another passing condition of the image. The hand can inspect without learning and choose without choosing because what one moment reveals places no obligation on the next.

The orange returns to the pile, available to be discovered again. What looks like hesitation is more fundamental: the sequence cannot convert a change in appearance into a change in state.
