Breathing Portrait

The portrait breathes, but breathing is an action whose success changes nothing. Each breath returns the body to the condition required for another. Motion maintains the present instead of dividing it into before and after. That makes this an unusually clean Still Life and an awkward specimen of slop. The failure may belong not to the synthesis but to the expectation that movement should become event.
